Katahdin Home’s Readfield Farm Collection is handcrafted out of vintage wood reclaimed from old New England homesteads. The wood you see and feel has been tempered by climate and time. Just like the homes and barns the wood was salvaged from, every piece in our Readfield Farm Collection is distinctly unique.

We have designed each offering to be unified with the lines and character of the very buildings the material was salvaged from. Every piece is honest, unpretentious and robust like the earthy souls who had originally worked these farms.

Our "Farmhouse" tables and benches exhibit many nailholes, knotholes, and weathered cracks... all intentionally left to tell you the boards "life story". Surfaces are sanded as home furniture should be, and the wood is sealed with an oil finish. Every piece of our Readfield Farm furniture comes with a certificate detailing the history of the building that the material was salvaged from.

By selecting a piece from our Readfield Farm Collection, you are also making a statement for sustainability. The weathered wood used in these pieces was harvested up to more than a century ago… and repurposing this material as home furniture will preserve the tree’s “life” into the next century as well.

Provenance

The various Farmhouse Tables and Benches in our Readfield Farm Collection are being currently crafted for the most part from pine sheathing and beams reclaimed from a barn that stood in the town of Kents Hill, Maine for over a century. Built in the 1870’s and used continuously until 2013.
